Easy SEO Part 3: Content is King

InTempo Software InTempo Software

In the first of the Easy SEO series, we looked at getting your business listed in directories. In the second part, we looked at the importance of links both within and pointing to your website. And now as the final installment of this three part series, we’ll talk about the big kahuna: content. Like all the other posts in this series, taking action in this area requires little to no technical expertise yet can boost your SEO rankings. And, of course, better rankings means more potential customers can find your business online.  So get out your proverbial pen, because here are three ways you can create content that people will want to read, watch, listen, and link to.

Product Pages

You are an expert on the equipment you rent, so it’s time to put that knowledge to use on the Internet. If you feature your products on your website (which is a great idea!), search engines love when you include unique, valuable content. Instead of copying descriptions straight from the manufacturer’s site, write your own.  In fact, according to the SEO experts at Kiss Metrics, search engines can penalize or even ban you if you copy content from a different website. If you have thousands of products, start with your most frequently rented equipment.  Focus on writing quality descriptive content that helps your customers make renting or purchasing decisions.

Blog

Blogging has exploded in popularity over the past few years, and for good reason: According to Hubspot, 46% of people read blogs more than once a day. What’s more, they are a great way to attract people to your business. Get creative with your blog rather than trying to be “sales-y.” If you rent inflatables, you could create a video montage of kids talking about their favorite bounce house (just get their permission to go on camera!). If you rent construction equipment, you could do a no-frills podcast series where you discuss new equipment.

“About Us” Page

This isn’t purely an SEO tip, but it’s a great way to connect with your online audience. Many companies don’t put much thought into their About Us page, but it’s one of the best places to differentiate your business and help site visitors get to know you.  Here are some tips:

The key to Easy SEO success always comes back to one simple concept: If you were a customer looking to rent, what information would you be looking for? SEO will always change, and new trends will come and go. But if you keep your eye on the prize by focusing on creating unique, helpful content — then you’ll have yourself a strategy that will never go out of style.
