Passing Down Telematics Data to Your Customers

Tony Tye Tony Tye

Telematics data isn’t just a way for you to track your fleet internally. It’s also a way for you to provide more transparency and improved visibility to your customers—a crucial value-add as they face ever-tightening construction budgets and ambitious timelines.

Sharing telematics information with your customers lets them conveniently track everything they have out on rent across multiple jobsites, alongside all the equipment they have in their own fleet. (All the feeds can be aggregated onto a single platform for full visibility and convenience.) It also lets them monitor each machine’s usage in near-real-time. Helping them proactively evaluate trends, control costs, and prevent unplanned overage fees lets you carve out the role of a trusted partner – not just another vendor that picks up and drops off rental equipment.

Better Tracking for Multiple Equipment Rentals

When contractors rent out multiple machines across several jobsites, it can be easy to lose track of which equipment is located where. Transferring machines from the original location to a secondary location makes it even more complicated.

Project Managers no longer have to waste their valuable time calling around to hunt down their equipment. A simple map view lets them view all their rentals and the corresponding contract information.

Full Visibility into Utilization Statistics

How close is any machine to its contractual usage limit? A busy PM that’s drowning in logistics can quickly lose sight of how long each machine has been running. By passing down telematics data through a Connected Assets platform, you put that crucial information right at their fingertips. If they decide to pay an excess usage fee to keep a project on track, they can make that educated decision and avoid unexpected charges on their final invoice.

Similarly, if they’re paying for equipment that’s been sitting idle for an extended period of time, they can consider reallocating those machines to other nearby jobsites. They can also look at exchanging it for other equipment that better suits their current needs.

More Accurate Projections for Future Projects

Did a machine burn more fuel than initially expected? Did it come due for service while in the field, delaying their construction schedule? These (and other) analytics can help contractors plan budgets and timelines for future projects more efficiently.
